The project
The car came to us with a strong, recently-rebuilt engine and gearbox but tired, oxidized paint and a soft top that had been replaced years ago in the wrong pattern for a Series 1 car. Since the mechanicals didn't need attention, the scope stayed cosmetic: full strip-to-primer respray in the factory-correct red, a new top cut to the correct Series 1 boat-tail pattern, and NOS door-panel trim clips sourced to replace cracked reproduction parts from a prior repair.
The distinctive round “boat-tail” rear deck — dropped after 1967 for a squared-off Kamm tail on later Duetto models — was a primary reason the owner wanted this specific car’s bodywork preserved rather than replaced.
