The Larkspur Land Cruiser

A mechanical-only rebuild of an FJ40 — the F-series inline-six, transfer case, and leaf-spring suspension at all four corners fully rebuilt for continued real-world use, not static display.

The project

Unlike most projects in our portfolio, this FJ40 is meant to keep working, not sit on a show field — the owner uses it regularly on unpaved roads, so the scope was entirely mechanical durability rather than cosmetic presentation. The F-series inline-six was rebuilt to factory tolerances, the two-speed transfer case was rebuilt with correct-specification gears, and all four leaf-spring packs were rebuilt with correct-arch replacement leaves rather than the more common aftermarket lift-spring substitution that would have altered the truck's original ride height and handling.

Return-to-owner testing included both highway and unpaved-road shakedown miles, confirming correct four-wheel-drive engagement and transfer-case operation.
