The project
The car had been repainted at least twice in its history, in two different colors, neither of which matched what its body tag actually specified — a common finding on pre-war luxury cars that changed hands many times over the decades. Decoding the body tag against Packard's factory trim and color records confirmed the car's true original combination, which the owner elected to restore to rather than keep either later repaint. The massive L-head V12 was fully rebuilt, and the correct folding fabric top mechanism — a complex multi-bow linkage unique to this body style — was rebuilt to correct factory operation.
The restored color and interior combination now matches the car’s original body-tag data exactly, documented in the delivery paperwork for future judging and provenance purposes.
